Is there a way to simulate a direct connection if a program does not offer one?

Yes.. and No.. No if the program has no proxy network settings option at all.. Yes... if it has.. then can use a special program that redirects to direction connection or another external/internal proxy

Here is a simple proxy which is freeware. and Yes you can have as many proxy servers or services on your notebook or pc as you like as long as configure them to use different connect ports like 8080,8081 I have 4 running on mine..

proxomitron, proxyswitch, Tor and FreeProxy as they all have their uses.

How to configure? Well the Helpfile is one of the best and crammed full of picture examples

for many common packages like chats and browsers you use.

however

well ... if not got other proxy on system and not conflicting with anything.. the defaults should work. default ports often are 127.0.0.1 ip address (your local PC) and port 8080

also filtering and URL bans are disabled by default.. you wont need these options if jusr

redirecting a program that auto detects the proxy in IE but gives a option to use alternative proxy but not a direct connection!!

tell you software like chat program to connect to HTTP proxy on 127.0.0.1:8080

this freeproxy also offers adding email accounts and socks redirections.

you click start to install the service once all configure via the setup console.

it will remain running until stop it even if reboot pc.

no tray icon is needed.. just runs in background out of the way and very fast too
